Essendon’s win over Sydney showed the strength of the training this summer according to David Zaharakis. He is just one of several Bombers players to put on muscle through the off-season. The team’s physical properties weren’t as strong last year especially against strong teams such as Geelong and Collingwood. The Bombers have recruited Dean Robinson to be their high performance coach. Last Friday night's win against Sydney, another tough team, really showed the building up of the boys. Zaharakis said that, “Travis Colyer and Jake Melksham are probably the two who have put on the most.” "It's been great over the pre-season to hit the gym; the boys have really embraced it. "Some of the training sessions have hurt, but (it's) just to get that size and bulk and be able to compete with sides like Geelong and Collingwood.” “We spoke about the scope for improvement I still have in my game,” said Zaharakis. “I’m nowhere near the player I want to be and this year is just another stepping stone in my development.” Defender Jake Carlisle was wearing a moon boot at the family day after twisting his ankle against Sydney, but a club Spokesman said it was a precaution and he’ll be ready for Saturday’s pre-season game against Brisbane.
